find connecting rooms

Does IHG guarantee connecting rooms?

No.

Across IHG — Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental, Kimpton — connecting rooms are a request, allocated first-come near check-in. A phone agent may say “guaranteed.” It isn’t.

The trap to watch for

The specific risk at IHG is being told one thing by a call center and another at the front desk. Central reservations can add a request and, sometimes, call it guaranteed — but the property assigns rooms first-come, and won’t know what’s free until close to arrival. People have shown up to find the “guaranteed” pair went to someone who checked in earlier.

Like most of the industry, IHG franchises its hotels and so can only pass along a request — it doesn’t control room assignment at the property. Only Hilton and Omni have solved this →

Your best move at IHG
  • Get the request in writing. Add it on both reservations and ask for confirmation by email or in the app — not just a verbal “yes.”
  • Call the property directly a few days before arrival, then again the morning you check in.
  • Don’t rely on “guaranteed” from a call center. Only the hotel can hold specific rooms, and only close to arrival.
